Jun 21, Nearly two lakh teachers have not been able to get their salaries for the past three months after the private sector-run institutional schools were closed due to the corona virus infection.
The situation of the teachers of the institutional schools has deteriorated after the source of regular income from the student fees of the private sector schools was cut off.
Most of the private sector schools have started teaching through alternative means including online since April, but the teachers have not been able to get their salaries.
There are more than 2.2 million students studying in 7,000 privately run schools across the country.
Hom Kumar Thapa, president of the Institutional School Teachers’ Union, informed that the teachers of the institutional schools could not get their salaries from last April to June.
According to him, his financial situation has become critical as he has not been paid for three months.
He said that 75 percent of the teachers have not even received their salaries. He said that the government has already published a notice in the Gazette to provide salary facility to the government employees including teachers even if they do not go to the office during the shutdown.
The National Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (NPABSON), Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) and government officials have also been called upon to take initiative in this regard.
